66 years have passed since the atomic-bombings on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The population of Hibakusha is declining, and aging as well. In this stark reality, we are concerned with how later generations will be able to remember the pain and suffering Hibakusha endured. Passing down memories of the devastation of the atomic bombings is important to avoid the tragedy to happen again, and to abolish nuclear weapons from the globe. It is second generation Hibakusha who can play an active role in this mission. Especially, physicians of second generation Hibakusha have provided medical treatment for Hibakusha and, at the same time, have seen their parents suffering physically and/or psychologically from the atomic-bombing. We are sure that physicians of second generation Hibakusha, who have engaged in radiation medicine and know medical consequences of nuclear weapons, have social obligation to work for this mission. From this standpoint, physicians of second generation Hibakusha and other Japanese physicians who share a common goal get together and make a collective effort for the success of 2012 IPPNW world congress.
