Dedicated to Dr. Shizuteru Usui, former president of JPPNW and of the Hiroshima Prefectural Medical Association, who passed away just before the 20th IPPNW World Congress

Under the leadership of Dr. Shizuteru Usui, JPPNW published One Day in Hiroshima: An Oral History and has distributed as a project of JPPNW to abolish nuclear weapons. To commemorate the 20th IPPNW World Congress, JPPNW has decided to upload this book on the website of the Hiroshima Prefectural Medical Association so that it will be linked to the IPPNW website to reach a global readership.

The atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki caused enormous damage, not only physically but also psychologically and socially. Nuclear weapons must never be used again. This book uses many charts so that junior and senior high school students as well as adults can easily understand the effects of radiation. I sincerely hope that it will be read by many people in many countries and that it will help prevent nuclear war.
